• April 28-29, 2010 - Zhang San Feng Pre-Festival Workshop-Discovering the Devastating Power of Xingyiquan

  Discovering the Devastating Power of Xingyiquan Xingyiquan, translated roughly as “mind intention boxing,” is arguably the oldest of the three internal arts and one known for its devasting power. At its core are five simple movements, cooresponding with the Chinese five elements of phases. Beneath this outwarding simply art, however, are lies a well of endless depth. From foot work designed to drive the power of the earth itself into an opponent, to a formula of creation and destuction based on Daoist theory which, potentially, may allow the user to counter an opponent with ease, xingyiquan is an art which can offer a lifetime of study to the willing student. With this two-day workshop Dr. Gary Torres, head of the legendary Kwok kungfu lineage, begins his long awaited series in Shanxi xingyiquan, the oldest of the xingyiquan styles. You will train in footwork particular to xingyi, designed to tap the power of the earth for devastating strikes. You will learn each of the five elements or phases. As always, you will also discover why Dr. Torres is often considered a walking encyclopedia of applications as he teaches you how to use each of the five basic moves to devasting effect. Three more workshops (schedule TBA), are in store, teaching you the entire system including the two person sparing form, creation and destruction cycle, and the 12 animals (additional postures with applications).
